can you believe it... i finally finished my granny square blanket!!! for real!!!
i chose a very simple, double-crochet edging. i think it frames the squares nicely without demanding too much attention.

some facts:
-it was made with 40 balls of Phil Coton 3 in 5 different colours and a crochet hook size 2,5mm
-it measures 180x115cm (so it would fit a single size bed)
-it contains 416 squares
-it traveled with me toAix-en-Provence, Marseilles and Amsterdam and was my on-the-go project for many, many bus-, train- and carrides
-it took me 2 years, 6 months and 5 days to finish it
-it was my first crochet project ever, and one of the reasons i wanted to learn how to crochet
-it is so gorgeous and i can't stop looking at it! :)
lessons learned:
-i will never use cotton yarn for a project like this again. it makes the blanket heavy and it doesn't give a lot of warmth. a cotton blanket is more the kind of blanket that looks great on a bed, or thrown over the sofa. unfortunately not the warm and cuddly kind...
-if i were to crochet a granny square blanket again, i would probably use another joining method, like the “join-as-you-go” method. it took me so much time to crochet the individual squares together!
-weaving the ends in before you start putting the squares together is a good idea... look at all those loose ends i still have to weave in. eugh! ;) i hope there are some good tv-shows coming up...

again, my creative space this week...
crocheting a border around the granny square blanket! oooh no... that means i'm getting very (VERY) close to finishing it.. so exciting. :) at first i was thinking to crochet a picot-edging.. something girly... but i think i'm going for a modern look instead. :)

my creative space this week... crocheting the pieces for my blanket together!!!!
that's right, no more squares to crochet.. all i have to do now is crochet the bigger pieces together into a blanket! unfortunately i am running out of white yarn (the yarn in my picture is the last bit i've got and it won't last much longer)... but new yarn is on it's way. :)
(the cookies are home-made by the way... cashew nuts with chocolate... yum!)
it is so weird that i finished crocheting the squares now... it was always my "on-the-go" project, in the car, bus, train,... what am i to crochet now? hexagons for my next blanket? it would probably be better to finally finish some already started crochet projects... :)

more creative spaces here, by the way.

lots of loose ends in my creative space this week...
i've been finishing and putting together all my squares for the granny square blanket this week. i think i finally have enough squares for my blanket! (if i counted correctly!)... and now i'm cutting off all the loose ends! check out this post if you want the see how big my blanket is already... i can't wait to finish it and throw it over my sofa!! :)

(the loose ends, by the way, are all put in a jar and will be excellent stuffing for the next toy i knit... frugal crafting, i love it!)

last week i promised you an update on the granny square blanket. well, here are some pictures! i think i'm almost there, it now measures 120cm x 170cm, which is a decent size for a blanket. and i still have to crochet a border! i'm probably going for a white border with a picot-edge. :)
(this was purposly shot with our rug so you have an idea of the size)
as you can see, most of the squares are joined in panels already. this will make my life easier when i'm putting the blanket together. though i'm not looking forward to weaving all those damn loose ends in...

the knitted swatch for week 6 was easy and fun to knit.
it's called the "drop stitch", a stitch with a subtle yet interesting structure. i like it!

last weekend we spent 3 lovely days in normandy, france. we did a trip that brought us from the cape blanc nez to fécamp, rouen, amiens... the weather was great and we had a really good time!

we saw the sunset between these beautiful cliffs... ...slept in a chambre d'hôte where i felt at home immediately... (i love that color combination, by the way)
...and saw amazing landscapes...
..of which the color combination made me think of my granny square blanket! (except for the blue)
i put all the squares together now, what you see here are 200 squares... i included my slippers in the picture so you get a better idea of the size. :)

i finished my first crocheted clothes hanger! it came out very well, although i probably chose the wrong kind of yarn. i'm working with thin cotton yarn, which takes a few more rounds of crocheting than it would with thicker acrylic yarn. but i do like the outcome very much!

next up is a minty green one!

and do you know i've been working on my granny square blanket for over a year now? time flies!! today it measures 70cm x 100cms, not yet blanket-size, but i'm getting there. :) (i updated my granny square counter!)
